RESTAURANT NAME
Popeyes
LOCATION
Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, IL

9.00 |Overall Score

Digital Menu Boards are becoming more and more pervasive for restaurants of all types. As experts in the industry, we break down key details of specific implementations and provide a score based on three primary categories:

9.0 | Creative Design – How well is the overall design executed

9.0 | Organization – How well is the content laid out

9.0 | Physical Setup – How good is the physical presentation

Popeyes is a renowned American multinational chain of fried chicken fast food restaurants, founded in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1972. Known for its Cajun-style fried chicken, buttermilk biscuits, and other Southern-inspired menu items, Popeyes has grown to become one of the largest quick-service restaurant chains globally, with thousands of locations across the United States and internationally. This implementation of Digital Menu Boards is at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL.

Creative Design (Score: 9/10)

The Popeyes digital menu board showcases strong branding with vibrant colors including their signature orange. The use of high-quality food imagery, particularly in the “Pick your Shrimp Tackle Box” promotion, effectively entices customers. This is needed even more in the food court environment where this restaurant is located. The overall aesthetic is clean and modern, aligning well with Popeyes’ brand identity.

The menu board makes good use of white space, preventing information overload. Use of imagery to help identify the various offerings is extremely well done. The large promotion on the far left screen is great to provide customers with a key LTO (Limited Time Offering) and separate it from the other content both visually and stylistically.

Organization (Score: 9/10)

The layout is generally logical, grouping items into clear categories like Sides, Drinks, and Combo Meals. This structure aids in quick decision-making for customers. The use of price points and item descriptions is consistent, enhancing readability. The only complaint I have is that the logical flow from left to right in the menu screens could be switched to have food options first and then drinks and sides. Typically a buyer would select a sandwich or other entree and then select their sides and drinks.

The use of a reversed field of color for the “Wings” section really helps this to stand out and differentiate this from the rest of the menu. The sauce selections also are nicely organized and supported by a change in color to help identify variations in heat level.

Physical Setup (Score 9/10)

The physical installation of the digital menu boards is impressive. The screens are aligned precisely, creating a seamless multi-panel display. There are no visible cables or mounting hardware, contributing to a clean, professional appearance.

The screens appear to have consistent brightness and color calibration, ensuring a uniform look across the entire menu board. The placement above the counter is at an optimal height for customer viewing.

The surrounding area, including the counter and visible kitchen space, appears clean and well-maintained, enhancing the overall impression of the restaurant.

Overall (Score 9/10)

Popeyes’ digital menu board implementation demonstrates a strong understanding of effective design principles for quick-service restaurants. The creative design successfully incorporates brand elements and appetizing visuals, though there’s room for improvement in visual hierarchy. The organization is logical but could benefit from a reorganization based on typical ordering process. The physical setup is notably well-executed, with precise installation and consistent display quality.

This digital menu board solution effectively combines technology with Popeyes’ brand identity, creating an engaging and informative customer experience. By addressing minor improvements in content organization and visual hierarchy, Popeyes could further enhance the effectiveness of their digital menu boards in driving sales and improving customer satisfaction. Overall this is a job very well done.
