Creative Design (Score: 7/10)
Branding – These digital menu boards are simple but quite effective. The middle screen is used for promotions and branding and the flanking displays are used for menu options and pricing. From a branding point of view there are several positive elements. The cloud-shaped callout at the top with the “Bring the Joy” slogan adds a fun, whimsical touch that ties into the business name “Nothing Bundt Cakes”. The blue color scheme is vibrant and eye-catching. There is minimal use of photography on the menu screens however the images used are helpful in demonstrating the variety of sized products offered.
The product photos, while appetizing, are quite small. Enlarging those would be helpful and could improve the visual appeal and focus on the cakes. The overall presentation is very clean and supports the brand without overwhelming the customer.
Visual Appeal – The designs of the digital menu boards are very straight forward and easy to look at. These menus use a dark background (the vibrant blue color) with light text. Often this combination makes it harder to read. In this case it works because the amount of text and the legibility of the content is nicely executed.
Typography – The typography on these menus is crisp and clear. The font selected is very readable even with the light text on the darker background. The use of the alternate typography on the promotional screen in the middle makes this content stand out nicely. The sizing of the typography for both section headers and items is large and clear. The section names blend in a little and could be helped with a different color or some other type of differentiation.
Organization (Score: 8/10)
Information Layout – The menus are extremely well organized and very clear. The one criticism I have is that the item choices would probably be better suited on the left with the flavor choices on the right. Most people in the United States tend to read information from left to right. This switch would be a logical flow to allow people to choose a product and then determine their variation choice.
Clarity – The menus are very clear and very usable. The layouts are organized and the information is presented in a consistent and organized manner. This makes the readability excellent and the ability for customers to navigate ordering as simple as can be.
Physical Setup (Score 9/10)
Displays – The digital screens are high quality and very well installed. The bezels (the frame around the screens) are small with the screens placed directly next to each other creates a video wall effect. With this layout the screens could potentially be used in this manner with a large promotional image spanning all three screens. There are no visible wires and the screens are mounted at an appropriate height.
This implementation was extremely well done and suits the business very effectively. With just a few minor tweaks these menus could have scored a perfect score. I always like to see a simple yet well executed approach to digital menu boards. This location has certainly achieved this.
